The removal of fryers and boiler equipment for Tayto Snacks, a market leading food manufacturing company, was a considerable undertaking, requiring roof access to remove the redundant equipment from manufacturing plant. Tayto appointed Cronin Movers Machinery Movers team to provide specialist support with the rigging and removal of the redundant fryers and boiler equipment from the Kilbrew facility.

WHAT WAS INVOLVED

The removal of fryers and boiler equipment was a complex project that involved detailed planning, project management with a professional rigging and moving service from the Cronin Movers Machinery Moving Team. The team leader reported directly to the Tayto Snacks on-site project manager.

Removal of 2 FryersThe removal of the two fryers required the opening of a section of the roof directly above the fryers. Using a 500 ton mobile crane, the crew manoeuvred the lifting equipment around into position above the fryers. The Cronin Movers team installed rigging and secured the fryers using a selection of slings, shackles, bracing straps and tag lines.Once secured, the crane lifted the fryer clear of the building. The fryer was carefully manoeuvred over the roof and lowered down to the set-down area and loaded onto the waiting transport trailer. After it had been secured to the transport trailer, the fryer was released and the crane moved the lifting gear up and away into position ready for the next fryer lift. The process was continued, and the second fryer was removed, loaded and secured onto the transport trailer.

Removal of the Boiler Equipment The removal of the boiler equipment involved the opening of another section of the roof directly above the boiler room. Again, using the 500 ton mobile crane the crew manoeuvred the lifting equipment around into position above the boiler room. The Cronin Movers team installed rigging and secured the section of boiler equipment using a selection of slings, shackles, bracing straps and tag lines. When secured, the crane lifted the boiler clear of the building. The boiler was carefully manoeuvred over the roof and lowered down to the set-down area and loaded onto the waiting transport trailer. Once the transport trailer was secured, the boiler was released and the crane moved the lifting gear up and away into position ready for the next section of boiler equipment. The process was repeated until all sections of the boiler were removed, loaded and secured onto the transport trailer.

THE OUTCOME

The removal of the fryers and boiler equipment was completed in 1 day and on time with great effort to minimise disruption to the production facility. A full risk assessment ensured that safety measures were taken onsite to ensure that the equipment could be removed while avoiding any damage or risk to the removal team or the manufacturing plant personnel. The Project Manager for Tayto Snacks said: “excellent job from start to finish”
